JTET Notification and Important Dates 2026, Fee & Changes

If you've been waiting years for a Jharkhand teaching exam, it's finally happening. This guide puts the JTET notification and important dates for 2026 on one page: how the application window was extended, the fee for each category, the exam date and what has changed since the cancelled 2024 cycle.

The exam is only days away, so the guide stays practical. Read it once, check your own details against it, then get back to revising. You've got this!

Key Takeaways

  • The Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), Ranchi, issued the JTET 2026 notification (Advertisement No. 24/2026) on 28 March 2026.
  • Online applications opened on 21 April 2026. The last date was extended several times and finally moved to 20 July 2026.
  • JTET 2026 will be held on Sunday, 1 November 2026, in two shifts, and the exam is offline (OMR-based).
  • Admit cards were released on 15 October 2026 and are available online only.
  • The fee is ₹1300 for one paper and ₹1500 for both (General/BC-1/BC-2/EWS). It is lower for SC, ST, PwD and PVTG candidates.
  • JTET is an eligibility test, so the notification lists no vacancies. Passing it makes you eligible for teacher recruitment; it does not give you a job.

JTET Notification and Important Dates at a Glance

JTET (Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test) decides whether you are eligible to teach Classes 1–8 in Jharkhand's government schools. JAC runs it at two levels:

  • Paper 1 / Primary level: Classes 1–5
  • Paper 2 / Upper Primary level: Classes 6–8

This is the first JTET since 2016. Several years' worth of B.Ed and D.El.Ed graduates are taking it together, so expect strong competition.

The official notification, later web notices and exam schedule are all published on the JAC website.

A note on conflicting dates

You may find different "last dates" online. Some sites still show 20 June 2026, but later reports cite Web Notice 29/2026, which extended the deadline to 20 July 2026. Where sources differ, the latest JAC notice applies.

The exam date also moved. In September 2026, reports said JAC had proposed 11 October 2026, but that date was never confirmed. The notice of 28 September 2026 fixed the exam for 1 November 2026, and every source since gives that date.

JTET 2026 Exam Day Schedule

Both papers are on the same day, 1 November 2026, in separate shifts of 2 hours 30 minutes each. The two times reported are 9:30 AM–12:00 noon and 2:00 PM–4:30 PM.

Sources do not agree on which paper is in which shift:

Source versionMorning (9:30 AM–12:00 PM)Afternoon (2:00 PM–4:30 PM)
Version A (several news portals)Upper Primary (Classes 6–8)Primary (Classes 1–5)
Version B (some other portals)Primary (Classes 1–5)Upper Primary (Classes 6–8)

Don't go by either version. Your admit card shows your exact shift, reporting time and centre, so plan your day around that.

If you haven't downloaded your hall ticket yet, our guide JTET Admit Card 2026 Out: Download Steps & Exam Day Guide explains how, step by step. It also covers what to check on the card and which documents to carry.

JTET Application Fee 2026

The fee depends on your category and on whether you apply for one level or both. Most portals that quote the notification give the same figures:

CategoryOne paper (Primary or Upper Primary)Both papers
General (UR) / BC-1 / BC-2 / EWS₹1300₹1500
SC / ST₹700₹800
PwD (Divyang)₹700₹800
Primitive Tribe (PVTG)₹500₹600

There was also good news for earlier applicants. If you completed the JTET 2024 form, you had to apply again for 2026, but JAC did not charge you the fee a second time.

How to Apply for JTET 2026 (Process Recap)

The application window has closed, but this recap will help you check your submitted form and prepare for the next cycle. Applications were made online through the JTET portal linked from the JAC website.

  1. Register on the JTET application portal with an active mobile number and email ID.
  2. Fill in your personal, category, educational, training, language, address and subject details.
  3. Choose your level: Primary, Upper Primary or both.
  4. Upload your photograph and signature in the required format.
  5. Pay the fee online and keep the payment confirmation.
  6. Submit the form and save a printout of the application and fee receipt.

The special validation round

Some JTET 2024 applicants could not log in because the mobile number or email ID they had registered was no longer active. JAC issued Notice No. 54/2026 on 31 July 2026 for them. These candidates went through a Candidate Validation Process from 1 to 8 August 2026, and validated candidates could fill in the form from 20 to 31 August 2026.

Trainee teachers made eligible

On 29 May 2026, JAC issued a notice that let trainee teachers apply online. It followed a School Education & Literacy Department order (Memo No. 836, dated 25.05.2026). Check the official notification for the exact conditions, including when your final marksheet must be submitted.

What Changed from the Last Cycle (JTET 2024 vs 2026)

If you applied in 2024, here is what changed. The table compares the cancelled 2024 cycle with the current one.

PointJTET 2024 cycleJTET 2026 cycle
Notification20 July 202428 March 2026 (Advt. 24/2026)
Application window23 July–22 August 2024 (later extended)21 April–20 July 2026 (after extensions)
OutcomeCancelled because of changes to the 2019 exam rulesExam scheduled for 1 November 2026
Governing rulesJTET Rules 2019New JHTET Rules 2026
Fee for earlier applicantsPaid in 2024No fresh fee for those who completed the 2024 form
Certificate validityEarlier rules had a fixed validity periodLifetime
Age limitStandard rulesOne-time age relaxation because of the long gap

Key changes explained

  • New rules: The 2024 exam was cancelled because the 2019 rules and syllabus had procedural flaws. The 2026 exam follows the revised JHTET Rules 2026.
  • Lifetime certificate: Your JTET certificate now has no expiry date, and reports say lifetime validity also covers certificates from 2013 and 2016.
  • Age relaxation: No JTET was held for almost ten years, so candidates get a one-time age relaxation. Reports put it at about 9 years. Check the official notification for the exact limit for your category.
  • Trainee teachers: Trainee teachers could apply under the May 2026 notice.

How to Prepare in the Final Days

With the exam close, focus on revision and practice. Starting new books now will only add pressure. Here's a simple plan:

  • Days 1–4: Revise Child Development & Pedagogy (CDP). Past JTET CDP questions have tended to test how you apply concepts, not just definitions.
  • Days 5–7: Go over your language papers and main subject areas, such as Mathematics and Environmental Studies for Paper 1.
  • Days 8–10: Take full-length timed mock tests and analyse your mistakes.
  • Last day: Rest, check your admit card details and pack your documents.

The only real JTET previous year papers are from 2012, 2015 and 2016. Use them to understand the question style, but don't look for a "2024 cut-off", because that exam was never held.

Conclusion

The JTET notification and important dates for 2026 are now settled. Applications are closed, admit cards have been out since 15 October 2026, and the exam is on 1 November 2026. Remember that JTET is an eligibility test: there are no vacancies in it, but passing it gives you a lifetime certificate that opens the door to teacher recruitment in Jharkhand.

Download your hall ticket, confirm your shift and spend these last days on revision and mock tests. Years of waiting have led to this exam, so give it everything you have. Best of luck!
