BPSC TRE Cut-off: Class 1-12 Category-wise Marks & Trends

If you are preparing for Bihar's teacher recruitment exam, the BPSC TRE cut-off is probably the number you think about most. It tells you how high the bar was last time and how much you need to beat it by this time.

This guide gives you the category-wise cut-offs from earlier cycles for all four parts: Class 1-5, Class 6-8, Class 9-10 and Class 11-12. It explains what pushed those numbers up or down, points out where the parts differ, and gives you a realistic target score for TRE 4.0. Let's go through it one step at a time.

Key Takeaways

  • BPSC publishes a separate cut-off for each class group, each subject and each category, with separate figures for female candidates. There is no single "BPSC TRE cut-off".
  • In TRE 3.0 the Class 1-5 General (Education Department) cut-off for Unreserved candidates was reported as 81, and the Class 6-8 Unreserved cut-off as 88.
  • Class 9-10 Mathematics had the highest reported cut-off of any subject: 102 for Unreserved candidates.
  • Class 11-12 Physics and Chemistry went as low as 40-41 for Unreserved candidates, because there were few eligible candidates.
  • TRE 4.0 has 33,320 posts in total, but far fewer at Class 1-5 and Class 6-8 than in TRE 3.0. That points to tougher competition at those levels.
  • Minimum qualifying marks have been 40% for Unreserved, 36.5% for BC and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates. The EBC figure is reported differently by different sources.

How the BPSC TRE Cut-off Works

Before you look at the numbers, it helps to know what a cut-off actually measures. BPSC ranks candidates separately for each class group and subject. Within each, it fills posts category by category. The cut-off is the score of the last candidate selected in that category.

Two terms come up again and again:

  • Minimum qualifying marks: the floor. If you score below this, you cannot enter the merit list at all, however many posts are empty.
  • Cut-off marks: the actual closing score once posts are filled. It is usually well above the floor, but it can sit right on it when posts go unfilled.

Minimum Qualifying Marks

For the TRE 2.0 result, Careers360 reported BPSC's criteria as follows: general category candidates needed 40%, BC and EBC candidates 36.5%, and SC, ST, women and PwD candidates 32%. Adda247 also gives BC and EBC as 36.5%.

The sources do not agree on EBC. One cut-off analysis notes that one report puts EBC at 34% and another at 36.5%. Until the TRE 4.0 notification settles this, check the official notification for the EBC figure.

The same analysis applies these percentages to a 120-mark merit base. That works out to roughly 48 marks for Unreserved, about 44 for BC and about 39 for SC/ST. This explains why so many reserved-category cut-offs in the tables below sit at 39. That is the floor, not a coincidence.

Why You See a "Cut-off Date of Birth"

BPSC's cut-off lists for some rounds show a date of birth next to each cut-off mark. It shows how ties at the closing score were broken among candidates with the same marks. If you finish exactly on the cut-off, this detail can decide whether you are selected.

If you want the full exam structure, including how the parts and marks are divided, read our BPSC TRE Syllabus and Exam Pattern: Class 1-12 Guide.

BPSC TRE Class 1-5 Cut-off (Primary)

The Primary level (Class 1-5) has the largest candidate pool. In TRE 3.0, 1,16,193 candidates appeared for three subjects (General, Urdu and Bangla) against 25,505 vacancies, and 21,911 qualified.

Source for this table: ProSyllabus's compilation of TRE 3.0 cut-offs. Adda247's male/female Class 1-5 table gives matching General-subject figures: UR 81, EWS 74, EBC 67, SC 39, ST 39, and UR (Female) 70.

A Note on Conflicting Class 1-5 Figures

You will also find a different set of Class 1-5 numbers online. In that set, General is UR 67, UR (Female) 57, BC 60, EBC 55, and SC 46 or 47 (sources differ), with Urdu UR 54 and Bangla UR 62.

Sites label this set differently. PW and bpsctre.co.in call it TRE 3.0. Adda247 calls it the 2023 cut-off. BiharHelp lists it under TRE 2.0. Because the sources disagree, treat 81 as the more recent TRE 3.0 General UR figure and 67 as an earlier round. Confirm both against BPSC's own result PDF.

What This Means for You

The SC cut-off of 39 matches the minimum qualifying mark. That means posts were still left after every eligible SC candidate had been selected. The Bangla Unreserved cut-off of 82 is the reverse case: a small subject with very few posts can close high.

BPSC TRE Class 6-8 Cut-off (Middle)

The Middle level (Class 6-8) is where subject choice changes your cut-off the most. In TRE 3.0, 1,59,723 candidates appeared across six subjects against 18,973 vacancies, and 16,989 were declared successful.

TRE 3.0 Class 6-8 Category-wise Cut-off

Careers360 published this category-wise table for Classes 6-8, with a separate Part-3 cut-off column:

How Class 6-8 Subjects Differed

Subject-wise figures show how much the cut-off moves between subjects at the same level:

  • Mathematics and Science: the Unreserved cut-off was reported at 92. There were 58,544 candidates for 5,623 posts, and 5,560 were selected.
  • Social Science: 65,919 candidates competed for 3,789 posts, and every post was filled.
  • Sanskrit: only 941 of 1,826 posts were filled. The Unreserved cut-off still held at 77, while the reserved cut-offs fell to 39-42.

The Sanskrit case teaches something important. A shortage of candidates mostly lowers the reserved cut-offs to the qualifying floor. The Unreserved bar can stay high.

BPSC TRE Class 9-10 Cut-off (Secondary)

The Secondary level (Class 9-10) has the widest spread of any part, from the low 40s up to more than 100.

The sources label this table differently. OnlineResult calls it the 2023 Class 9-10 cut-off, while ProSyllabus lists the Mathematics 102 figure under TRE 3.0. Either way, the pattern is clear: Class 9-10 Mathematics needed close to a perfect score. ProSyllabus also reports BC at 102 and EWS at 101 for that subject.

TRE 2.0 Class 9-10 English, for Comparison

For TRE 2.0, Careers360 reported these Class 9-10 English cut-offs: UR 48, EWS 48, BC 44, EBC 41, SC 39 and ST 45. Compare that with UR 61 in the table above. The same subject can change by more than 10 marks between rounds, depending on posts and applicants.

Where Class 9-10 Differs From the Other Parts

At Class 9-10 your subject matters more than your category. A reserved-category Mathematics candidate needed far more marks than an Unreserved Persian candidate. If you have a choice of subject, keep this in mind.

BPSC TRE Class 11-12 Cut-off (Senior Secondary)

The Senior Secondary level (Class 11-12) has the most subjects, and its cut-offs are the hardest to predict. Popular humanities subjects close high, while some science subjects close low.

What Stands Out at Class 11-12

  • Hindi was the most crowded PGT subject, and UR and UR (Female) closed at the same score, 88.
  • Physics and Chemistry closed at about one-third of the merit marks for Unreserved candidates. There were not enough candidates who met the eligibility rules.
  • English at this level closed much lower (49) than many expect.

A low cut-off is not a free pass. Remember the minimum qualifying floor, and remember that a low cut-off in one round can rise sharply once more candidates become eligible.

What Moved the BPSC TRE Cut-off in Earlier Cycles

Across all four parts, the same few factors explain most of the movement.

1. Number of Vacancies

More posts usually mean a lower cut-off. In TRE 3.0, Class 1-5 had 25,505 vacancies, and the General UR cut-off closed at 81.

2. Number of Eligible Candidates

In Class 6-8 Mathematics and Science, a large, strong pool of 58,544 candidates for 5,623 posts pushed the UR cut-off to 92. Class 11-12 Physics showed the opposite effect: a thin pool brought it down to about 40.

3. Subject Popularity

Hindi, Social Science and Mathematics attract large numbers of well-prepared candidates. Language subjects such as Persian, Arabic and Pali often close low because fewer people apply.

4. Reserved Pools Hitting the Floor

When posts go unfilled, reserved cut-offs drop to the minimum qualifying mark, often 39. The Unreserved cut-off may not move at all.

5. Paper Difficulty

A tougher paper lowers raw scores for everyone. That is why cut-offs for the same subject can change between rounds even when the number of posts is similar.

BPSC TRE 4.0: What Is Different This Time

BPSC released TRE 4.0 under Advertisement No. 15/2026, dated 22 September 2026. It cancels the earlier Advertisement No. 14/2026 of 18 August 2026. Applications opened on 25 September 2026. The last date to apply is 26 October 2026, and the last date for fee payment is 25 October 2026. The exam date had not been announced in the sources we checked, so watch the BPSC website.

The total is 33,320 posts: 32,388 at first, plus 932 added for Classes 9-12. You can see the full schedule in our BPSC TRE Notification and Important Dates: 33,320 Posts.

TRE 4.0 Vacancies by Part (as reported)

PartTRE 4.0 postsTRE 3.0 vacancies
Class 1-5 (Primary)3,84725,505
Class 6-8 (Middle)8,56318,973
Class 9-10 (Secondary)4,370check the official notification
Class 11-12 (Senior Secondary)16,540check the official notification

This is the most important point in the whole post. Class 1-5 has about one-seventh of the posts it had in TRE 3.0, and Class 6-8 has less than half. If applicant numbers stay anywhere near earlier levels, the cut-off at these two levels is likely to rise. Class 11-12, with 16,540 posts, is now the largest part.

Application fees and salary details differ across sources, so check the official notification for both. Check your eligibility too: see BPSC TRE 4.0 Eligibility 2026: Age, STET/CTET & Degree before you plan around a subject.

Realistic Safe Score for BPSC TRE 4.0

These targets are our own planning estimates, based on the trends above. They are not official predictions, and they assume the merit base works the way it did in TRE 3.0. Use them as goals to aim for, not as guarantees.

PartLast reported UR cut-offOur suggested UR targetWhy
Class 1-5 (Primary)81 (General)90+Far fewer posts than TRE 3.0
Class 6-8 (Middle)88 overall; 92 Maths & Science95+Posts less than half of TRE 3.0
Class 9-10 (Secondary)41 to 102 by subjectLast cut-off for your subject + 8-10Huge subject spread
Class 11-12 (Senior Secondary)40 to 88 by subjectLast cut-off for your subject + 5-10Most posts this cycle

If you are in a reserved category, apply the same idea. Take last cycle's cut-off for your category and subject, and add a margin of 8-10 marks for Class 1-5 and Class 6-8, where posts have dropped sharply.

How to Build That Margin

  1. Fix your weak section first. One badly attempted section can cost you more marks than you can make up anywhere else.
  2. Practise with timed full-length papers. Our Online test series lets you check your scores against these targets every week.
  3. Revise from focused material. Use topic-wise Books for competitive exams for subject depth, especially for Class 9-12.
  4. Track your score trend, not single scores. Three mock scores in a row above your target are a better sign than one lucky result.

How to Read the Official Cut-off When It Comes Out

When BPSC publishes the TRE 4.0 cut-off, look for four things:

  • the correct class group and subject (each has its own list)
  • your category row, and the female row if it applies to you
  • the cut-off date of birth, if you are close to the mark
  • any part-wise cut-off column, like the Part-3 column in the TRE 3.0 Class 6-8 list

Always download the PDF from bpsc.bihar.gov.in. Coaching websites sometimes mix up rounds, as the conflicting Class 1-5 figures above show.

Conclusion

The BPSC TRE cut-off is really dozens of cut-offs, one for each class group, subject and category. In earlier cycles they ranged from the 39-mark qualifying floor up to 102 for Class 9-10 Mathematics. Vacancies, candidate numbers and subject popularity explain most of that range.

For TRE 4.0, the big change is that Class 1-5 and Class 6-8 have far fewer posts than before, while Class 11-12 has the most. Set a target above last cycle's cut-off for your exact subject and category, practise until you reach it consistently, and check the official notification for every detail. You can do this. Start today, and keep going one mock test at a time.

FAQs

What was the BPSC TRE Class 1-5 cut-off in TRE 3.0?

For the General subject (Education Department), the reported TRE 3.0 cut-off was 81 for Unreserved, 70 for Unreserved (Female), 74 for EWS and BC, 67 for EBC and 39 for SC. Some websites show 67 as the UR figure, but they disagree on which round it belongs to, so confirm it against BPSC's official result PDF.

What was the BPSC TRE Class 6-8 cut-off for Unreserved candidates?

Careers360 reported a TRE 3.0 Class 6-8 Unreserved cut-off of 88, and 87 for Unreserved (Female). Subject-wise figures were different: Mathematics and Science was reported at 92 for UR, and Sanskrit at 77.

Which BPSC TRE subject had the highest cut-off?

Class 9-10 Mathematics had the highest reported cut-off: 102 for Unreserved candidates. BC was also reported at 102, EWS at 101 and EBC at 99, so candidates needed close to a perfect score.

What are the minimum qualifying marks for BPSC TRE?

For earlier rounds, BPSC's criteria were reported as 40% for Unreserved, 36.5% for BC, and 32% for SC, ST, women and PwD candidates. Sources disagree on EBC, listing it as either 34% or 36.5%, so check the official TRE 4.0 notification for that figure.

Will the BPSC TRE 4.0 cut-off be higher than TRE 3.0?

For Class 1-5 and Class 6-8 it may well be, because reported TRE 4.0 posts are 3,847 and 8,563, compared with 25,505 and 18,973 vacancies in TRE 3.0. Fewer posts usually mean a higher cut-off. Class 11-12 has 16,540 posts, so competition there may be less intense. The final cut-off also depends on paper difficulty and how many candidates apply.

What is a safe score for BPSC TRE 4.0?

As a planning target (not an official prediction), Unreserved candidates can aim for 90+ in Class 1-5 and 95+ in Class 6-8. In Class 9-10 and Class 11-12, aim for last cycle's cut-off in your subject plus 5-10 marks. Reserved-category candidates can add a similar margin to their own category's previous cut-off.
